Common, everyone has an opinion on it! First off, it’s Apple. Sexy and locked down. If you were looking for a giant iPod Touch then you got your wish. I’m sure it will be successful, but it could’ve been so much more. Instead it’s a limited device that does what Apple (Steve Jobs) wants you to do.
If you want internet TV, forget it, no flash so no Hulu and a ton of other video sites. You’ll have to get your TV through iTunes. We’ll everything comes through iTunes. There’s no expansion, no desktop OS (it uses the iPhone OS), it’s not even HD. The price is one of the things they got right, starting at $499. That’s good for everyone because the competition will have to bring down their prices.
I was hoping for a full blown operating system with a cool touch enabled interface that could switch between a Kiosk like touch mode and a full blown desktop. But then that would give you a choice between a Macbook and an iPad. Apple wants the iPad to be less than a notebook but not a phone. So now (if you’re an Apple fan) you need a Macbook, iPad, and an iPhone or iPod touch.
I’m hoping the HP Slate answer’s the shortcomings of the iPad but gives me all of Windows 7 if I need it. I’m sure they’ll skin it with a version of the TouchSmart interface and I can have the best of both worlds. The problem for them is pricing, it can’t be $999.
MSI and others have Android based tablets coming out and I still like Lenovo’s convertible S10-3t and the new hybrid.
I think the iPad will be a success in spite of itself because of the marketing machine. If you recall, there were many mp3 players by the likes of Creative and others. It took Apple to create the market and strong arm the recording industry with the iPod.
