I’ve heard that it may be happening but it finally hit me. Today all of my HD clear QAM channels from Comcast are gone. I talked to technical support and customer service and they’re not coming back. There weren’t that many clear QAM HD channels but it pretty much renders my silicon dust HD homerun and my media center useless for any quality broadcasts.
There’s no reason for Comcast to do this except to limit the usefulness of Media Center PC’s and to sell more DVR boxes. That, by the way, was the first tech’s recommendation. When I told him I already have two and I don’t want anymore, he had nothing else to offer. I asked where I could issue a formal complaint (thinking the more people that complain the better) but he said it was him. My complaint number is 001443543.
Talk about monopolistic practices. I hope the NBC deal never goes through and I’m looking to leave Comcast as soon as possible. Maybe no one else is better but they had this feature one day, and turned off the next. It’s deliberate and it sucks. If you have Comcast, be prepared to get boxes for all your TVs, even the fancy ones with digital tuners.
