Goodbye WinMo – hello DROID!

I finally got sick and tired of waiting for Microsoft to get their Windows Mobile act together.  I did try, byt my Omnia with 6.5 still sucked.  I know better 6.5 units are out now but once I heard that the Droid could do Exchange syncing, the fight was over.

I called Verizon, actually got some good customer service, and in a couple days I had the DROID.  It is a GREAT device.  And I mean device.  I know I’ve made fun of all the iPhone users and their apps, especially the STUPID ones, but now that I’ve had a taste of a great screen, great touch response, great browsing, and great free and useful apps, I will never go back.  And now I never have to buy an iPhone!

Besides the obvious reasons to love the phone and the Android OS, I have used the navigation feature and it works like a charm (no need for that GPS unit).  I subscribe to a lot of podcasts and use my Zune and Ford Sync to listen to them while driving.  I have tried several podcast apps and they work flawlessly and the Bluetooth audio works with my Ford (no more carrying around my Zune).

The apps auto update and the first OS update worked on my unit without issue.  I’ve converted some HD video with Handbrake and it plays great on the DROID.  I’ve even stopped using my favorite piece of tech as much, my Asus Eee.

Hands down, one of the best pieces of tech I’ve purchased to date.  If you have a DROID, there’s a couple nice articles on apps at Wired and PCMag.  If you don’t have a DROID, go get one!
