Multi-touch mice and pads

October 8, 2009

Multi-touch screens are cool and fun, but holding your arms up to a display for any length of time is going to get old.  So how do we take advantage of multi-touch when our arms get tired?  Well Microsoft is already taking a look at possible alternatives using the Mouse.  They’ve release several concepts that are reviewed at TechRadar.  Some look pretty interesting.

Wacom has updated it’s line of Bamboo tablets with touch capabilities, starting at $69.  It’s unclear whether they take advantage of Window’s 7 native touch capabilities or use a special driver.

Apple is also rumored to be working on some sort of hybrid touch mouse.

In the end I think we will see a combination of devices to fit specific needs.  I can see using the touch screen occasionally in the office but in a family room environment it could be the principle means of using the computer.  At least it looks like we’ll have choices.

Microsoft Courier Tablet

October 2, 2009

With all the hype the last months surrounding the mythical Apple tablet it was a bit of a shocker to have Microsoft show off one of the coolest tablets yet!  Although not an official product yet, the Courier is a two screened tablet, like a book, that has some very unique functionality.  It doesn’t look like a full blown Windows tablet but the demos are definitely worth checking out.
