9 DIY Projects

MaximumPC has a great DIY article on 9 projects including; powering everything with a hacked USB cable, controlling your PC with a Wii remote, hacking your Canon camera, and more.  My favorite is fitting a retro Star Trek phaser with a blue laster.

HP announcing several new PCs

HP is rolling out it’s fall releases, some of which will be timed with the Windows 7 launch in late October.  Crave has some info on their first all-in-one that’s NOT a touch screen.  They’re also updating their Home Server line.


Eee Keyboard PC launching next week

Maximum PC has some info on the new Eee Keyboard which has a built-in Atom powered PC and 5 inch touch screen.  Looks like fun, not sure how useful it will be.


Archos Tablet sightings

Looks like the Archos Tablet is making the rounds.  It won’t be available until Windows 7 launches but Crave has some pics.


Verizon HTC Touch Pro 2 – available

Verizon now has the Touch Pro 2 available for a 2 year contract price of $199.99.  This phone is supposed to be upgradeable to Windows Mobile 6.5.

Also, the Omnia is now $49.95 (hackable to winmo 6.5)

Easy Peasy for netbooks

Another netbook distro of Linux is available.  I haven’t tried it myself but it looks pretty good and the price is right.  Check out EasyPeasy.

Looking for a video player for your linux box?

TechRadar has a thorough review of video players for linux.  It used to be a job to get video codecs working but I’ve had no problems with Ubuntu lately.  Still the article gives you a great run down on what’s available.


Zune updates coming Sept 14

I just received notice that the Zune service will be down for maintenance beginning September 14th until early September 15th.  No doubt some major changes to accommodate the Zune HD.  Hopefully they take advantage of the lack luster Apple iPod event.
